Hi Ethan,
It's very important to know God's will first and foremost. Everything that Jesus did was in direct alliance to the Father. He knew God's will and simply obeyed.

John 5:30
I can of mine own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my judgment is just; because I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me.

The world will tell you to do whatever your heart desires. However our heart can fool us into going in the wrong direction.
Jeremiah 17:9
The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?

The best thing for you to do is to grow close to the Lord putting your relationship with Him above everything else in your life. That means you should spend time in Scripture, praying, seeking His Presence and learning to hear His voice.
When you develop this relationship with the Father, He will tell you what you should do and how you should be doing it. Remember that God's work is not more important than God Himself. He wants YOU more than what you can do for Him. That's why making devotional time a priority is the first thing to do before finding out what God's will is for you. The Lord uses many methods for speaking and letting His will known to us. Once you develop that deep intimate relationship, then He will tell you what He wants you to do.
Hope this helps and if you haven't signed up for the newsletter yet you may do so at this link:

Hey Eren,
Thanks for this article, it has helped. Just to vent a little bit though. I've had a dream ever since I was a kid to be a writer and draw. I truly feel God has spoken that to me. But of course over time we get off track. Especially me, my main problem throughout life has been over analyzing almost everything.

I had some time toughs when i was younger that really caused alot of the "analyzing" and "fears" i have today. But i listen to Joel Osteen, and He inspires me so much and i have truly grown closer to God because of listening to his message's.

But like you said about applying God's word, i dont read my bible that much. Granted i listen to one of Joel's sermons and feel inspired. Shortly after my mind kicks back into over analyzing and fear of, "We'll, does God still want me to pursue this dream? Is this too good to be true? Do i deserve to be blessed in a career and field i like?"

Things like that tend to confuse me with my walk and what i truly believe is in my heart. I cant let go of this dream feeling its because im destined for this dream by Almighty God but its my own wrong thinking thats holding me back and hindering me..

Any of this make sense? lol Sometimes being in this state of mind it can tend to make you feel a little crazy you know? But thanks for listening and for the article. Hope to here back from you.

I totally agree with you Natural. The moment we forget the goals we start to be swayed by life's problems and other things that happen.
Writing goals is another thing I do too. When I'm reminded that God has a purpose and a plan for my life I'm totally motivated to keep going and immerse myself in His will.
Blessings to you,
Eren Mckay

hmmm. this was interesting and i agree with the applying what we read. what good is having knowledge if that knowledge is never applied.

i guess we also have to learn to make reading any applying god's word a habit. sometimes this can also be done by setting goals. if we set a goal to apply one thing that we've learned or read that day, then it becomes a habit. i'm always working on goals and making lists. having something written down so i can check off helps too.
