How to Make Homemade Eggnog Recipe

Hi! I'm Eren Mckay and I would like to thank you for reading my blog. I provide helpful tips for families in their daily lives and educational resources for teachers.

Every year, the tradition in our family is to have the first eggnog of the season after we decorate the tree. We sit on the couch with only the lights from the Christmas tree shining and we reminisce about Christmases past and about the one we are about to celebrate. It’s a heartwarming time in our family and we all look forward to it in a special way.

This recipe was passed down to me from my father-in-law who has been making it for years. I’m not sure where he got the recipe, and I suspect it isn’t a unique or original recipe, but it still has the taste of family. It doesn’t taste like the store-bought eggnog, which is a good thing, in my opinion.

Combine 2 quarts of milk, 1 cup of sugar, 4 eggs, and vanilla to taste (1-2 teaspoons) in a blender. Blend. Pour in glasses and top with real whipped cream (Redi-whip works) and sprinkle with nutmeg. (I generally serve with a straw, to avoid the whipped cream mustache.) This recipe makes about 4 servings.

Disclaimer: The USDA recommends against eating raw eggs…but I’m not giving up cookie dough…I’m just sayin’…

    Hey forget the straw. Go for the mustache!! It is the time of year when we celebrate the birth of our savior. If we can whoop it up for sports teams, paint our faces and act like fools there, why not an eggnog mustache !! LOL

    Sound real delicious, I think this is close to the recipe that my mom used when I was a kid, the only difference, we did not put the whipped cream on top. I think I will go get some nutmeg and make some tonight.

    As I am in the dairy delivery game I sell eggnog on a daily basis, but come Christmas time the eggnog sales go wild. I must admit though that this recipe sounds so much nicer. I might even give it a shot, minus the whipped cream though, got to watch out for those calories you know.

    I love “real” eggnog – the taste is so superior to the processed “fake” nog. but what I do is opt to use the pasteurized eggs to be on the safe side.

    @Pete - For sure. Totally reminds me of my childhood.

    @Sire - I didn’t know you were in the dairy delivery business. Eggnogg is not something we can easily find here in Brazil. That’s why it’s been forever since I had eggnog. This recipe came just in time for Christmas celebrations.

    @Lynette - that’s a good suggestion. I’m excited just to have eggnogg.

    Thanks for stopping by,
    Eren
