Hi there! I'm Eren Mckay. I created this blog to help others save money, time & major headaches through sharing what I've learned about the internet & techie world. I hope we can all help each other grow in our online adventures.

Dr. Pic is an online image editor that I personally love to use just because it’s so easy and fast. There are many other image editing tools.
I personally have image editing software on my desktop such as Gimp (free) and Photoshop (paid). But the fact is that they have so many functions that it makes it a bit more time consuming to perform simple tasks. Online image resizers are just simpler
.
If you have a blog or website you’ll probably need to make the size of the image smaller so that it visually fits better into the blog post. You’ll also need to optimize images so that your page loads faster. If you have heavy pages this will slow down your site speed which might even ultimately affect your search engine rankings. Here’s an article on Google’s blog that you can read more about this topic.
I’ve tried to make this step by step tutorial for resizing an image as simple as possible to understand.
First of all go to Dr. Pic. (← This link will open up in a new window.)
When you get to Dr. Pic , you’ll see this ↓.

At the top left you will see the button that says Load a picture. Click that button and a new window will open up. Your screen should look something like the picture below. Click the button that says Browse. (My button says “procurar” because my browser is in portuguese by default.)

After you click Browse, go to the folder where you saved your image that you want to upload to resize and double click it. That will select the image. Then you click open and then on Load Picture.

That will upload the image like it did my image right here:

You then click the Resize button on the left hand side and the resize box will open up like in the image below ↓:

Now you’re going to select the new size of your image. You can do so by selecting the blue arrow with the drop down menu and choosing the pixel size. Uncheck the Lock Aspect Ratio so that it will make the exact width and height that you determine. In this case, I chose to change my height size from 290 pixels to 250 pixels and maintain my width size at 960 pixels. You can also resize using percentages. I personally prefer using pixels though.
Side Note : If you use Firefox to browse the internet, a great tool for measuring pixel size and having a better notion of the size of the image is Measure It. It’s an on screen ruler and I strongly recommend using this as it helps me daily when I’m resizing my images.
After you have determined the exact size that you want to resize to, click the word Apply and it will resize it for you.
Here’s an image to show you this step:
The next step is to save your image. On the left hand side you will find a link where it says Save to Disk as in the image below :

A new window will open up and you simply click the Save button:

After you click Save, a new window will open up asking you where you want to save the image to. Find the folder on your computer in which you want to save the image to and click Save.

After this step a new window will open up and ask you if you want to open the folder. I personally like this step because I go into the folder and rename the image whatever makes the most sense to me.

I hope this tutorial has helped you out. Once you resize a few images you’ll get faster and faster at it. If you like this article you’ll want to subscribe to the Embracing Blogging newsletter by clicking on this link and filling in the form.

Eren, what a great tutorial you’ve created here especially for the folks that aren’t wanting to download any free image editors and/or pay big bucks for them either.
You are showing all of us just how easy it is to take your image and resize it for your blog posts and all with an online tool.
This is so easy peesy and no one will now have any excuse for not being able to resize their photos/images by themselves.
Kudos!
Your Friend,
Roy

This is a wonderful tutorial. I try to re-size my image in wordpress.
I make initial adjustments in Photoshop to make the file size smaller.
Have you thought about making a screen capture video?

Great tutorial! I usually go the lazy route and resize my image in wordpress, but most of the images I take are captured from my iphone which is already in small size. Dr. Pic is an online tool? I have photoshop which sometimes take forever to load, I might look into your tool which seems easier to use.
Off topic, but somewhat related, do you happen to have some tutorial on putting watermark on images, and how you can setup google alerts to keep track of your uploaded images?

@Girish - Hi there! Glad you enjoyed it.
@Roy - True and the worst part is when some so called “guru” tells newbies that they need to buy 500 dollar software to do this kind of thing.
@Debbie - I actually was thinking of doing a video tutorial for this. I think video would be of great help for people too. Great suggestion
.
@Cherrie - Dr. Pic is so easy! That’s why I chose it to make a tutorial. You really should check it out. I think you’ll like it a lot.
.
I don’t know how to put a watermark on images. Personally I just think it’s a lot of extra work and hassle. It’s an aide though for certain branding images. As soon as I learn how I’ll write another tutorial on that
All the best,
Eren

I agree with you, I hate it when some “guru” type comes along and says you need blah blah blah … you don’t NEED blah blah blah that’s just what they want to earn a commission on or what they use personally. There are so many image editing programs out there and a lot of them are free or super low cost. Photoshop is not the be all end all of the graphics world

@Melanie - Thanks Melanie! I tried to make it simple so that anyone can resize their images quickly.
@Loretta - Totally agree with you on that one. That’s one of the main reasons why I wanted to start this blog. To make things easier and less costly for people that are going online. We already have so much work creating content, promoting it, etc. The technical part needs to be facilitated as much as possible so we can move forward.
I’m just like you. When I hear someone saying : “Oh you have to buy Photoshop..” I cringe. Simply because I know of so many free substitutes for simple graphic work. Of course certain things can only be done with Photoshop– but those are advanced things.
Thanks so much for stopping by.

All the best
