If you’re feeling far from the Lord or not as close to Him as you want to be, then my prayer is that this list of reasons will help you come closer to Jesus. (Each reason has a Bible verse to accompany for you to meditate.)
Scripture tells us that we are not to be lukewarm. We need to have that fire for the Lord as it is the basis for us to overcome all problems in our lives.
There’s a saying (by Robin J. Gunn) that goes like this:
“If you feel far from God, guess who moved?”
God doesn’t move away from us. He is faithful and loves us. Sometimes we get caught up in so many activities and end up not spending time with Him. And so in order to get in step with Him we need to rekindle that fire.

Even if you feel close to Him right now, it’s always good to know the following truths so that you can remind yourself WHY you love him so much. This will help you in many areas of your life. To overcome temptation, to be able to obey His commandments, to shine His light in this dark world. Also when you meditate on these things you will begin to feel His Presence and this will bring you joy and peace.
Finding out who God is, His attributes and His character is getting to know Him. We love Him for so many reasons. These are only the “tip of the iceberg” of reasons. There are many more. For the sake of brevity we’ll stick to 35
.
If you really meditate on each of these truths I know that you will grow closer to Him. These have really helped my spiritual life.
1-Why should we love God?
Because He first loved us:
We love Him, because He first loved us.
I John 4:19
2 – Because He will never abandon or fail us:
I will never leave you nor forsake you. Hebrews 13:5b
3 - Because even when we don’t deserve His love, He shows us eternal mercy:
But because of His great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved
Ephesians 2:4-5.
4 -Because with all of the power to do anything that He wanted, He decided to be humble and come to this Earth for us. He let go of all of all of the glory of the heavens and suffered so much for us that He was disfigured. Jesus did all of this out of His own free will to save us from condemnation.
Just as there were many who were appalled at Him – His appearance was so disfigured beyond that of any man and His form marred beyond human likeness…
Isaiah 52:14
5 -Because we’ve offended the Lord over and over and He still forgives us if we confess and repent:
If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9
6 -He blots our sins out which means He erases what we have done wrong. He forgets it all if we truly repent. So that means once I confess and repent I don’t have to live in a “guilt trip”.
I, even I, am He who blots out your transgressions for My own sake; and I will not remember your sins. Put Me in remembrance; let us contend together; state your case, that you may be acquitted.
Isaiah 43:25-26
Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord. Acts 3:19
7 -Because He is perfect in character. No one else is like Him.
He is the Rock, His work is perfect: for all his ways are judgment: a God of truth and without iniquity, just and right is He.
Deuteronomy 32:4
8 -Because He is Spirit and that means I can talk to Him at any moment and He will listen to me:
God is Spirit… John 4:24a

This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.
1 John 5:14
9 -Because I can know what the Truth is through Him. I don’t have to guess or hypothesize what the Truth is. He guides me to it:
Howbeit when He, the Spirit of truth, is come, He will guide you into all truth: for He shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever He shall hear, [that] shall He speak: and He will shew you things to come.
John 16:13
10 -Because He has so much in store for us that our minds can’t even grasp it all.
But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love Him.
I Corinthians 2:9
11 -Because He has prepared an awesome place for us in heaven in which there will be no more suffering. I’m so grateful to be able to look forward to that:
Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many rooms.
If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also.
John 14:1-3
12 -Because He is sooo faithful to us even though we have not been to Him.
Your love, O LORD, reaches to the heavens, your faithfulness to the skies.
Psalm 36:5
13 – Because He guides every single moment of our lives.
For this God is our God for ever and ever: He will be our guide even unto death.
Psalms 48:14
14 – Because He is the provider of all of our needs.
But their trust should be in the living God, who richly gives us all we need for our enjoyment.
1 Tim. 6:17b
And God will generously provide all you need. Then you will always have everything you need and plenty left over to share with others. 2 Corinthians 9:8
15 – Because He has created and planned each part of who we are.
This is what the LORD says—
He who made you, who formed you in the womb,
and who will help you.
Isaiah 44:2
For those God foreknew He also predestined to be conformed to the likeness of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers.
Romans 8:29
16 – Because He is the source of fulfillment and joy.
You make known to me the path of life;
in your presence there is fullness of joy;
at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.
—Psalm 16:11
17 – Because He is near and is my source of strength:
But you, O LORD, be not far off; O my Strength, come quickly to help me.
Psalm 22:19
18 – Because even when the going gets tough in my life I know He has a purpose in all of it. He always has the best for us in mind:
And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to his purpose.
Romans 8:28
19 – Because He is the reason we all even exist:
For by Him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through Him and for Him.
And He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together.
Colossians 1:16-17
20 – Because He is very patient and merciful:
… But You are God, ready to pardon, gracious and merciful, slow to anger, abundant in kindness …
Nehemiah 9:17
But You, O Lord, are a God full of compassion, and gracious, longsuffering and abundant in mercy and truth.
Psalm 86:15
21 – Because when things seem impossible in my life I know that I have God on my side:
For with God nothing will be impossible.
Luke 1:37
But He said, The things which are impossible with men are possible with God.
Luke 18:27
22 – God is good and wants all to be saved. (Not all will be saved because man chooses evil but it is His desire that all repent and believe in Christ to be saved:)
This is good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.
1 Timothy 2:3-4
23 – Because He prays for us :
My little children, these things write I unto you, that you sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:
1 John 2:1
24 – Because He already has a purpose and a plan for you:
For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
Jeremiah 29:11
25 – Because Jesus is the Creator and His greatness is amazing.
For by Him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether [they be] thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by Him, and for Him:
Colossians 1:16
I see the greatness of God when I see the following video:
(it’s the second largest aquarium in the world)
26 – Because He is the one Who heals us when we are broken or wounded.
He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds … Great is our Lord, and mighty in power .
Psalm 147:3
27 – Because listening to Jesus my heart gets on fire just as the disciples hearts were burning when listening to Him speak:
And they said one to another, Did not our heart burn within us, while he talked with us by the way, and while he opened to us the scriptures?
Luke 24:32
28 – Because His promises are truth and they will give us the strength to live and to obey if we simply meditate upon them:
Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
2 Peter 1:4
29 – Because He is capable of solving every single problem and need that we ever will have in our lives.
And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:19
30 – Because He gave us all of the talents and gifts that we need to fulfill His will:
Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.
James 1:17
31 – Because He gives abundance and meaning to our lives.
I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.
John 10:10
32 – Because He said that we should not worry about tomorrow. Even though worrisome thoughts try to creep into our minds, His words destroy those thoughts:
Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
Matthew 6:34
33 – Because He sends angels to care for us, how cool is that?
The angel of the LORD encamps around those who fear him, and he delivers them.

34 – He is just plain awesome and no one else is like Him:
There is no one holy like the LORD; there is no one besides you;
there is no Rock like our God.
1 Samuel 2:2
35 – Because He has His arms wide open to care for me.
Because without Him where in the world would we be?

@Maria - I totally agree. Knowing that the Lord can take and impossible situation and turn it completely around is so reassuring. Trusting Him brings us into a rest that this world simply can not give us.
@Paul – I’ve seen people talk about God’s attributes so many times but never with the perspective on meditating on who He is to be able to grow closer to Him. This week I really felt the Holy Spirit showing me that meditating on who He is is a way to come to love Him more. Thanks for stopping by
.
@Pete – I’m happy it was a blessing to you. I’m also using this study for devotional time with my boys and they’re really liking it.
Blessings,
